Somewhere only we know

Where on this earth
Is there a place to call home?
With resting silence
Chattering streams
Sounds of chirping
In the groves
Do we climb a mountain
And take a ride down
On the rainbow?

Deep blue grey eyes
Watch same coloured clouds
Drift heavily towards us
Like moving mountains
Though weightless to our eyes
Powerful forces hold them
In the sky

A bridge that divides
Also unites
Seasoned minds recall
The day it came down
After rolling the dice
On their way home
So their lives revolve
Staying on side
Never daring to cross
For fear of remembering
Nervously teetering
On edge of floating bridge
Sea spray enveloping
Same waters harmlessly
Tickle toes
At Opossum Bay

We make it look easy
To love
Because we know
Anything else
Than familiarity
Is beyond us
Confronting disparity

If we met by chance
- How many people on this earth? -
Would lady luck allow
Another turn
To find one other
Standing beside
In a place
Made for us

Sound bites

Peering through the gap in the fence
Seeing glimpses of movements
Shifting my weight on my haunches
Ears picking out prominent sounds
Out of the loudness of wind, grasses, cicadas
Talking fluently in the language I feel
Most comfortable in my skin
Waiting for an eye to appear, an ear to receive
Only darting birds believe
What nature knows to be true
Our senses of self flow unkept by the tide gate
Words carried away with wings on the breeze
Warm air rises to meet
All the waves from all the ones
Who agree

Love like

A manicure
Constantly tending
Ever growing
Uncomfortable process
Paring and smoothing
Rough edges
Common trait of humanity
Yet individual as
A fingerprint
Love an identity
Caring regularly
Outward sign of
Healthy nurture
Nourishment
Beautiful accessory
To extend
To hold
In another's
Hand

Little did she know

The tragedy of poetry
Is how Atwood sees
As the words are written
Inspired event complete

Like an epitaph
To memory in bold
Detail delightful sighting
Though future is untold

No assurance can be given
By simply putting down
Ink to paper, finger tap
All prophecy unfounded

Into future like Le Guin
A new world expounded
If all society's whisper
In amplified stereo sound

A foot tapping, toe curling
Secret I keep
That all stories begin and end
With us somewhere in between
Eucalyptus globulus, Tasmanian blue gum

The end

Affection for a close companion
Can grow should a spark
Be fanned into flame
- if a spark existed at all

So yes, I could reasonably
Imagine growing
Attracted to someone
Based on a mutual friendship
Over a long period of time.
Good looks and physique
Have never been
A precursor to attraction
For me

I am mindful of the heart
Of another
- this is all I see
On the skin and face
The smile and eyes
Come from within

For the sake of joy
To preserve
my future life and family
Shortly, my desire to live

I remembered what love
Ought to feel like.
A careless abandon
That let go of
Self-consciousness...

This ignited in me
A fire that can never
Be put out

Neverland

Never heard a ticking clock
Inside a crocodile
Never seen a fairy nymph
Darting firefly

Never seen a league of beings
Rise up and take a stand
Never felt the heartache
Missing touch of human hand

Never felt this way about love
Though seen it in their eyes
Never heard the silence speak
Revealing a surprise

Never knew with certainty
That life would turn this way
Never knew that happiness
Could lead a man astray

Never met someone who could
Turn heads with words so few
Now never want to hope or have
Another 'cept for you

Tandem

The most devastating weather
Can be made wonderful
Beside a fire
Locked in embrace

The most tragic happenstance
Can somehow be made bearable
By walking it together

As the fear of falling
Becomes a daily grooming
The delight in calling
Another love

Takes the pain out of
The air pressure
The impact when
Sky is spinning above

Like skydiving in tandem
Feel the weight of air together
But even if you go alone
The rush lives on forever

Those who've had their livelihoods
Unfairly swept away
Cling to songs and memories
Of love in better days

It brings them smiles
Laughter, singing
Stories on repeat
This is love's most noble task
In case again we meet

So powerful is love's lament
Like smiling through the tears
It gives us all our decades worth
Reminiscing happy years

So if by fortune I would live
Into those golden years
Rest assured my smile will sit
Firmly past my ears

Blitz

Keeping you at arms length
While holding on to life
Silence so you'll never hear
The danger and the strife

One day V day will arrive
And in your arms I'd fall
To stand on every corner
Friends and family and all

When sheltered under door frame
To avoid roof falling in
Imagining a life with you
A fantasy we're in

Like stepping through a cupboard
Into frozen landscape bare
Meeting little furry friends
Sweet treats if you dare

The realm of fiction is complete
With swords and battles too
But surely it's the safest way
That I can be with you?

Love parade

Darkness lifts like a curtain
Raised to the rooftop
Of palladium
A stage

Dancers, jugglers, seers and wanderers
Mill around in their thousands
Wondering who will speak
On that day

Mumbling and speculation
Fill the open sky with heat
Distress and devastation
Trampled under feet

No authoritative voice resounds
The cacophany dies to a whisper
The only words recited 'tween
The lover and the listener
