Love that keeps you warm

Desire as the heat emanating
From the gas stove lit - extinguished
Once realised
One can build a fire - with what?

Outside these walls' shapely diameter
Of forest elders
Glacial remains confound me
Monuments to time gone by

Tears of loss and such colder
Forming peaks and troughs
Boulders of thought crushed
Weight of centuries soft snowfall

To walk together amongst it
Not for faint hearted
Tenacity, grit resilience
Packed duvet downy feathers

Love is love is all
Lake Osborne to Hartz Mountain, Tasmania

Winter arrives

Winter arrives slowly
A knock on the door
One morning
Lover calling you
Back to bed
Mid June promises
Teasing along
Since they escaped
To furthest parts
Of the landscape
All summer long
Nothing to do
But wait for frost
First signs of
Pink frosted dawn
Hope she will come again
Alone
King Billy Pine at Lake Osborne, Hartz Mountain, Tasmania

Earth wounds

Gaping wide mouth
Where tree roots
Would dig deep
Holding still
As wide limbs above
Each to each
Arms and feet
Lungs of earth

Two years of weaving
Words of healing
For the colossal
Wound from atom bomb
Dropped without notice
On my front lawn

Wandering hands and minds
Kept still by tracing
Rainbow threads
Counting stitches
Like memories
Back and forth
In the mind

Still a dream weaver
Handing on silent wishes
In thread form
Head, hands, heart warmers
Binding you to mine
Renovating inside and out
Trading old loves
Possessions for new
Regeneration of seasons
Always changing
Yet standing still

Old growth gums waving
At your window
Since before our kind
Carved their history
Over mother earth
Tattooed seared
Grazing land
Will one day be swallowed
By roots and leaves
Once again
View from Cape Bruny Lighthouse

Sun kissed

Summer solstice and the air is swimming with insects
Rays scoop down to bathe kangaroo grass heads golden
Swaying on waves of breeze surfing on treetops
To break the back of the working week is to finish at midday on Friday
Roll down to the bay with windows down and radio blaring
The kissed sound of a tinnie opening
Smacked on lips evokes guttural sighs and closed eyes smiles all around me
She was brazen as one of the locals
Sandy haired and sun kissed freckled skin chilled as southern air embraces her
First one in heckling others to obey her invitation
Then she'd disappear under the waves to shed her worries
No one ever looked at her sideways
Pirates Bay Lookout

Gift of melancholy

Meticulously trawling
Through archives
Of missed opportunity
Calling old numbers
On worn business cards
Are you still there?

Season of rearing
Likened to summers
Where grey skies
Isolate us from
Bronzed bodied beach
Work play enmeshed

Two trophies stand
Proudly against my chest
Giving out endlessly
To everyone depleted
Scars like war wounds

Though burden borne
Respond to moonlight
Swooning despite
Just a sliver
In the morning

Travelling across time
Space and memory
To wherever you
Happen to be
Field of flowers walking

Permission to unleash
All turbulent thought
Washing over trail
Of many footprints
Behind you
