About aperture

Living on the island state of Tasmania, Australia. Narrating life through poetry and photography.

Origins

If ever an original thought
Possessed fair and true
Surely it would be one time
I fell in love with you
Pimelea glauca, Smooth Riceflower, Seven Mile beach Tasmania
Sheer freedom to spend
Hastily penned prose
As a lottery win
Tossed to the wind

Not a single note
To be found now
All love expended
Where to now?
Coal river, Tasmania

One fine day

A bundle of spring flowers
Tied loosely with a curl
Of twine enveloped
By eucalypt sprigs
Like a peace offering
Lay at my feet
All sorts of smiles
Glances and reminisces
Scents hang around
Should you find
Alone turns lonely
Unexpectedly so
At the eleventh hour
Though not clock watching
Thoughts chime in chorus
The need to know
All is fine
Epacris impressa

Love no limits

Monumental greatness
Can be obtained
By simply containing
All adoration
Safe within
Much trepidation
To give it away
Knowing it may spoil
Be despised or downtrodden
A monolith of affection
For one
Flourishing
Behind closed eyes
A life adorned

Entertainer

Today I humbly entertained an idea
no cavalcade or ceremony required of me
Bouquets of Floriade a capital idea
but did not lend itself to such as this

Flowery words showered upon it
simply dampened the stunning silence.
A blossoming of two minds
entwined in a moment

Such dangerous liaisons
could spark a whole rumination
Lightning flashes
- all is calm

Such adventures I could take you on
if only such an idea
Would dance with me
till dawn

Leopard spots

Golden den of orchids
Wavering on windy
Spring day

Appeals to senses
Grow in certain place
Of community

Treasure trove
Of species mingle
In their shade

Who grows around me?
Companion planting
Colourful variety

Though foot and paw
Tooth and claw evade
Safety in numbers
Diuris pardina, leopard orchid, greater Hobart Tas

Skin hunger

Five women
All you need
When the world
Is falling in

One had lived
Through similar -
The skin hunger
Is real, she said

Another steeped
In grieving -
Spirituality is
In nature, she said

Third came in from
Left field -
Find your tribe
And thrive, she said

Fourth woman still
Recovering -
Walk with me
And breathe, she said

Fifth one filled
With reason -
Swim in the ocean
And live, she said
Kunanyi peak from Strickland Falls

Trade ins

Today I traded in
My mug of faith
From whence it came
To the thrift shop

Racks of garments
Wisdom sayings
Dust gatherers
To be, or don't be
Someone you are not

A fair exchange
A dollar hiking cane
To traverse immoveable
Mountain ranges

When climbing
Is the only option

Foreground: Macquarie Wharf with RSV Nuyina Antarctic Research Survey vessel alongside,
Background: kunanyi / Mt Wellington, Hobart, Tasmania

Winding time

Written by the smile
Passing decades ripple down
Toes kick away sandals
Slide to the beat
Tight jeans flowing sleeve
Pink as lip gloss
Loose curls akimbo
She strides to forefront
Glance melts chocolate
Strangers like lovers
Come and go once in time
River bends resist flow
These years gently wind
Slow growth endures all
Still deep in mind
