Whispers

Spending my days
Writing to ghosts
Of my past
Asking them to
Reveal themselves
Materialise before eyes
But they refuse
Thump, thud, voices
In the night
All contrived
By my mind and heart
Convinced I don't live
In this world alone
Colonies of tall trees
To sea grasses swaying
On movement of ocean breeze
Salt spray dries
Salty tears
Unfathomable depths
Overcome latent fears
Echoes of waves
Lap at my back, soothingly
Whisper to mine ears
You are never alone
In the natural world
Banksia serrata

Provenance

I wandered aimlessly
From camp
Collecting kindling
For my kin
Surveying burnt out
Trunks of old memories
Till one day sun
Illuminated
A fresh young patch
Tender mouths open
To the sky
Nestled inside
A hallowed stump
I pondered upon
Their origin
Flying in on breeze

Lineage significant
In world of humans
While evolution of
Plants and animals
Takes centuries
We people are adept
At changing
So frequently
Sometimes in just
One moment
From mate to prey

Timbre of the heart II

Dear lover, in absentia
I whisper into shells
Over whether all I gave
Was yours or for myself

Rigid cool of cave
Calms inner storms
Black ink air stale
Smothers fright and fawn

Tentacles do weave
Embroider heart strings
Plucked ruefully
Timbre displeasing

- of course-
To thine ears
Derwent River Tasmania

In plain sight

Smooth places made
Turbulent
Delighted smiles turned
Strained
Vulnerability is
Compromised
Intelligence used to
Detonate
Childlike innocence
Smothered
Wisdom sown
Uprooted
Voice of justice
Silenced
Creative forces
Unglued
Elders presence
Ghosted
Protest voices
Dispersed

Shed a tear
For all the years
Silence
Made things worse
Bellerive quay, Tasmania

Point break

Sheer gravity lures
Decades forces pulls
Finally free and yours
Pinnacle of wave
Break over rocky shore
Thrill bouyancy
Every time she responds
To me
Takes to the edge
Bright white sandy smile
Flashes behind eyes
Everywhere I see
Words etched into
Cliff face story
Eroding crumbling
Debunked history
Tideline moves along
With moonlight spree
Voice like wind on waves
Whispers to me
Adrenaline fades
Until next ride
