About aperture

Living on the island state of Tasmania, Australia. Narrating life through poetry and photography.

Light a candle for yourself

My dreams never betrayed me

It was the daytime that I fought

Erasing words I did not say

Discarding others’ thoughts

You know a hand could never hope

to live without their arm

An arm never fights

without a hand to disarm

I dampened end of fingers

extinguished the ill-lit wick

But faith and hope lit another flame

Its scent won’t make us sick.

I know you must despise it

All my words and songs and stares

Like bitter herbs, resent the taste

But brings us heavenly wares.

Atmosphere

Seek not tangible work of hands

Bountiful good of lands

Seek not sweat of effort on brow

Milk and honey

sweet culture scent

brew ferment

Dew drop pure, nor lament

Seek not revelling aching

limb and ligament

Slaving till reckoning day

Clutching dear at.most.fear

Seek diligently

Hidden – heard and felt

In the realm of angels

A World within One self.

For this we silently slave

Driving apathy away

Drilling at walls that form

In thin air

Suspended in a thick

blanket of despair

That clouds the eyes

marks our stare

One name desires us,

pierces our side

He asks us ‘Do you dare?’

What we see here is

Swings and roundabouts

The universe

The sea

The atmosphere

Heaven declares the unseen

Seek

Fear not.

Master Stonemason

Amidst vineyards and streams

rickety bridges, burnt ridges

lies a stone pillar erect

Ebenezer, rock of help to protect

Teach, observe, promise to serve

no wicked intent or self-serving word

Mizpah, watchtower, amidst almond flower

The Master carves out his heritage dream

Gentle rest in valleys green

Shepherd’s wake from hilltop eye view

Finds source of springs to refresh and renew

Lest our wine-skins burst at their seams.

While you were sleeping..

Image

‘While you were sleeping you tossed you turned
You rolled your eyes as the world burned

The heavens fell the earth quaked

I thought you must be but you weren’t awake, no

You were dreaming you ignored the sun

You grew your power garden for your little ones

And you found brides for them on Christmas Eve

They hung young Cain from the Adam trees

And danced uh oh

While you were sleeping I tossed and I turned too

I closed my eyes but the future burned through

The planet turned a hair grey as I relived the day…

I’ll never catch up to you who sleep so sound

My yawns are useless my heart beats too loud

To go to sleep my mind’s too proud to bow out.’

Lyrics by Elvis Perkins

Used to be

Image

Used to be that

Every time I saw you

I walked away and cried

From the tone in your voice

The way you raised your eye

The whisper on your breath

You thought you could deny

Used to be that

Every time I saw you

I caught you in a lie

hints and blunt suggestion

Words like bricks would fly

But now i never cry

Since i stood my ground

And took my aim

And drew pistols at fifty paces

And shot the crooked lie

Here I’ve hung it out to dry.
