End and Begin

Can't turn round
Nor go back
Burke and Wills track
Pride takes us on

Spreading sun
Wind and rain
Spreading seeds
Some in vain

Quiet resting place
Long nourished
Always known
Local natives
Wildlife grown

Is such a place
For a wild exotic
Blown in
From afar

Do you know where you are?

Survival at Sea

Therein a deep hushed tone I know
A wisdom note sings
When she speaks to me
Something needed, warned and heeded
Underlining it
Take note, it rolls round
In my mind for a time
-Floating in the night air like a firebug on a tropical breeze
Teasing my attention from stares and slowing streams
All the daily races
Flit and float-
Until the moment when I grasp it joyfully

Cures for ills
Stomach for thrills
Food for thought
None have taught
Sound for silence

A boat for my island
Rural property, Tasmania
